Badminton : Sad day for Malaysia (Part II)

Malaysia lost to England 2-3 in the Sudirman Cup.

TheStar ( Malaysia were beaten in the two crucial men's and women's doubles matches and England thus avenged the defeat in the Commonwealth Games mixed team final in Melbourne last year.

Malaysia headed for defeat against England after world number two Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong failed to deliver the winning point expected of them, losing to World Championships runners-up Anthony Clark-Robert Blair.

The pressure was on world number seven Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty to clinch the tie for Malaysia in their first-ever meeting against Gail Emms-Donna Kellogg. But the English pair turned heroines for their side, saving three match points to chalk up a 22-20, 18-21, 23-21 in the deciding match.

Meanwhile, Clark-Blair gave credit for their win over All-England champions Kien Keat-Boon Heong to Malaysian coach Tan Kim Her, who only took charge of the English doubles players last month.

“He has taught us the new ways in training adopted by the top Asian players. It has already made a big difference not only to our fitness but also to our mental approach to the game.”
